Our AIADMK was founded by Puratchi Thalaivar, Ponmanachemmal M.G. Ramachandran who was fondly referred to by the people of Tamilnadu as MGR. His vision for empowerment of the poor and disadvantaged is reflected in his quote which is close to the official motto of the party “Kodi pidikum thondan mudivedupan” – The primary members of the party will take the ultimate decision.

MGR

1972 – AIADMK Party formed by Puratchi    Thalaivar, Ponmanachemmal M.G.               Ramachandran who was fondly referred                to by the people of Tamilnadu as MGR.
1973 – First election victory of AIADMK at Dindigul parliamentary by-election in 1973.
1977 – AIADMK wins assembly elections. MGR was sworn in as the 7th Chief              Minister of the state on 30 June, 1977. MGR remained in power for ten              years.The party under his leadership won the assembly elections, three              times consecutively in 1977, 1980 and 1984.
1980 – AIADMK won a comfortable majority in the state assembly by winning              129 seats out of 234. MGR sworn in for a second time as Chief Minister.
1984 – Party wins assembly elections with MGR once again elected as the Chief               Minister.
1987 – Our beloved leader, MGR passes away but leaving us with a strong              legacy on good governance and empowerment.

AMMA

1991 – The AIADMK swept to power in the assembly elections of 1991 under the leadership of Amma.
2001 – AIADMK led alliance wins assembly elections. AIADMK wins 132 seats. Amma sworn in as chief minister for the second term.
2011– AIADMK alliance wins 202 out of 232 seats with AIADMK by itself winning 150.
2016 – AIADMK led alliance wins assembly elections. AIADMK wins 132 seats. Amma sworn in as chief minister for the second term.
