CHENNAI — In the wake of Sasikala Natarajan being appointed as the General Secretary of the AIADMK, speculations are rife over her elevation as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu soon, but sources suggest that the development isn’t happening anytime soon.

Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao, who is in Mumbai at present, will not head to Chennai on Wednesday and Panneerselvam is to remain interim Chief Minister until Rao examines legal implications regarding Sasikala’s appointment.

In a fresh jolt to Sasikala Natarajan in her bid to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the Election Commission has said that no rules were followed by the AIADMK in selecting her as the party’s temporary General Secretary.

The poll panel has sought a copy of the resolution and other details about Sasikala’s elevation to the party’s top post.

The Election Commission, however, said it has not sent any notice to the AIADMK. What this implies is that Sasikala has no authority to remove Panneerselvam as an AIADMK treasurer or even member.
